Alienware M17x R3 and XPS17 are suspended until early April

The newly launched Alienware M17x with Sandy Bridge processor and the about to be launched 3D version of XPS17 are suspended until April due to the issues found in the Sandy Bridge version of the processors.

I placed an order for Alienware M17xR3, 3D enabled laptop last week and eagerly waiting for the delivery. But noticed that this laptop and the XPS 17 3D laptops links have been removed and all the existing 3D related NVIDIA links are broken in the Dell website. When I communicated with the dell support executive this is what he had said

"On Jan. 31, Intel announced a Stop Ship on its Sandy Bridge (new Core i-series) chipset. According to Intel, ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD drives."

And also said that

"For customers impacted by this issue, Dell offers a couple of solutions. Customers experiencing issues will be supported under the warranty and service terms. Once we have new chip sets from Intel in early April, we will provide a motherboard replacement that corrects the design issue at no cost to our customers. Replacements will be provided at the customers' location and convenience via authorized Dell service providers. Affected customers may also take advantage of the applicable return policy, which may vary by region"

I recently bought a Nokia Xpress 5800 mobile. Earlier I was using Nokia N73 for more than 2 years, it had no problem till now. I went for Xpress 5800 mobile mainly because it has got a bigger screen with WiFi feature. I always need yahoo mail with me. I thought I can synchronize the yahoo mail on this phone when I am at home through WiFi. Later I realized this yahoo mail setup requires POP3 access from yahoo. I have Apple IPod, it does not require POP3 access.

I always use Nokia mobile for its reliable and long lasting battery backup. I should also appreciate the response time of this mobile. My N73 used to take longer time to start up. This starts up quickly and also good response time on the applications.

Now I regret seriously why I spent so much of amount to buy a problem. I never tried windows or android based mobiles. Here are problems I face almost every day though I have got the latest firmware installed. I am counting the problemsL.

WiFi automatically gets connected when I am at home. Do not know how to disable. I had to restart my mobile for this problem
Randomly GPRS is getting connected. Do not know why it requires GPRS connection. GPRS data cost me L. From connection manager I will try to disconnect. Either it gets disconnected and reconnected automatically or never gets disconnected. My mobile always wins the race. I had to restart my mobile for this problem.
This morning I was calling a person. The same person called me on my mobile at the same time. When I press green button, it still continued to ring. I could not disconnect or attend. After 1 minute it got disconnected, but there was a call notifier(when user is on call, there will be an icon on the top) being displayed. I had to restart my mobile.
GPS is of no use. It rarely gets connected. Yes, in the open space. Tried in the Terrace and on the road.
Frequently it hangs. Even the power button will not work. The only way I can restart is remove the battery. Again it is not that easy to remove the battery.
The calendar has got two Arrow keys to navigate to the dates. I tried many time pressing the button by my finger and also by stylus. It never worked. Later I realized I should not press on the button rather beside the button. Isn't it misleading?
A bulky mobile but without PDF reader. I cannot use it for reading L. I carry IPod with me.
I miss my yahoo mail in this Nokia mobile. But apple IPhone supports yahoo mail service without yahoo premium mail account.
The proudly launched product OVI maps. If you are in the Menu screen, if you want to go back to the Map, there is no option for it. The only way out is selecting my location. What if I was browsing the map and want to go back to the same location where I left on the map. The work around I found was using Search option. This will get me a Search box, when user presses on the map, the search bar disappears and I am now on the map J
On OVI maps, If user wants to know in which direction he has to head, he should know which is north. Even if you know North direction, when ever user takes left or right turn, the user has to tilt the mobile. Because it always uses North on the top.
The dictionary it comes with the mobile will always ask for "Only English is installed. Download more languages?". I do not want any other language. I have installed few other dictionaries which I like. Unfortunately they do not have scroll bars L on this mobile. But the same applications used to have on Nokia N73.
I am sure this XPressMusic sound quality is better than its previous mobile models. But cannot be compared with Sony Ericsson mobiles.

Will Nokia consider these problems?

Windows 7 + IE8 + Integrated Authentication=Account lockout

I had been experiencing problem with windows authentication on local intranet sites. Whenever I try to use these sites, browser will pop up the log on window, providing valid credentials will again and again get me the logon popup screen and I always ended up locking my domain account.

I managed to use Firefox for some sites. But not all the sites were working properly with Firefox. After too much of frustration with account lockouts and calling up help desk to unlock my domain account, finally I put an end to the hell of windows integrated authentication issue with Internet Explorer 8 on windows 7.

Here is the fix it worked for me.

Make the following two entries in the registry under the key HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA

Add name SuppressExtendedProtection of type DWORD with value 1
Add name LmCompatibilityLevel of type DWORD with value 3

Hopefully someone will benefit out of this blog entry.

I am sure that Microsoft Windows 7 is much faster than its predecessors. Recently I realized that my laptop with Windows 7 operating system starts up much faster and available for use instantly, but Apple IPod Touch takes few more seconds to start up. It's definitely a remarkable change from the desktop operating systems.

If I compare Apple IPod Touch with my year old N73 Nokia mobile, definitely IPod is 10 times faster. Yeah N73 takes almost 4 minutes to start up and another 30 seconds to settle down and ready to use, though only 25% of the memory used.

Finally got Windows 7 RTM

Finally the long waited windows 7 RTM on my laptop. I have been using windows RC for quite a long time after a windows vista.

Windows 7 is definitely much better than its predecessor window XP or Windows Vista and also faster which had never been in any of windows series. More over it is stable.

Hoping, I will continue to have the same experience with Windows 7, not like other operating systems fading away over the time by performance.

Missed Miss Bangalore 2009 Event

Today I checked my yahoo mail spam folder to know that I got an invitation for Miss Bangalore contest held on 31^st October 2009, definitely not to be a contestant thoughJ.

For the past two days I was checking my mails through iPod which did not fetch my yahoo mails in Spam folderL.
